A well-presented file makes communication easier. It does not replace eligibility requirements or the decision of an authority or letting agent.
1. Start with an overview
Before completing multiple forms, clarify your current housing, expected moving date, household and applications already underway. Arriving from abroad, moving within the canton and preparing a rental application are different projects.
We suggest keeping a one-page overview with three groups: completed, awaiting a reply and still to do. This makes it easier to avoid repeating work.
2. Prepare the right documents
Follow the recipient’s requirements. Identity, employment, income and debt-register documents may be relevant. In Geneva, an extract can be requested from the cantonal debt collection office. Someone acting for you must meet the applicable representation requirements.
The federal data protection authority stresses proportionality. Keep your own working file, then tailor what you send to each purpose. Inform co-tenants and guarantors and obtain their agreement before sharing their information.
3. Turn a checklist into a working process
Use a simple tracker: task, contact, missing document, deadline and next action. Record each submission date, retain evidence of sending and file the response. Sent and accepted are different stages.
Give documents clear names, such as Name_Certificate_2026-10.pdf. Check legibility, orientation and missing pages. A short follow-up quoting the application reference is more useful than messages scattered across several channels.
4. Continue after moving
An address change within the canton must be reported to the OCPM within 14 days. The cantonal guidance also identifies separate steps for schools and, for driving-licence holders, the cantonal vehicle office. Private providers must be informed directly.
Our practical suggestion is to keep a contract checklist and mark each confirmation received. Banks, insurers, employers and utilities may update their records at different times.
5. Choose the support you need
You may only need a rental application prepared, without a home search. Maison LBM offers this separately, at CHF 350–480 under an agreed quote. Additional administrative work has its own defined scope and price.
For relocation, CHF 350 covers file opening, the first appointment and initial assessment. It is credited against the total commission of 12% of annual rent if LBM’s involvement leads to a signed lease. Mandate viewings carry no extra fee. Rent basis, VAT and payment dates are specified before commitment.
Your next step
Choose one task holding up your project and identify the missing document or response. If you delegate part of the work, ask exactly what will be prepared, what will be followed up and what remains your responsibility.
